We Gather In God’s Name

The Lord be with you…and also with you.

Focus Statement – Pastor Warren

I remember when the “fist bump” was introduced to our culture, sometime in early 2000’s.  It was seen as an alternative to the handshake, as a way to make physical contact without actually touching – too much.  The fist bump is handy during “flu season”. Of course different cultures have different ways of greeting one another, from a bow, or an embrace, to a western handshake, to a full on Kiss on the cheek or forehead.  Well, the early church had a way of greeting one another with which we might be uncomfortable – the HOLY KISS.  It was actually an action of their worship time together.  Today we want to consider what it means for us, living in the middle of the #METOO movement and a society caught up with accusations of sexual harassment, to “greet one another with a holy kiss” Romans 16:16.

We Greet One Another with the Peace of Christ

Gathering Song-I Love You with the Love of the Lord#422

Love one another deeply, from the heart. 1 Peter 1:22

I love you with the love of the Lord. Yes,

I love you with the love of the Lord.

I can see in you the glory of my King,

and I love you with the love of the Lord.

The Prayers of God’s People.

“The Apostle’s Creed

In Unison

“The Apostles Creed”

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived

by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to hell.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Praise of God’s People

To God Be the Glory#56

He reached down from on high and drew me out of deep waters. Psalm 18:16

To God be the glory, great things He hath done! So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, who yielded His life an atonement for sin and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

CHORUS-Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice! O come to the Father thro Jesus, the Son, and give Him the glory

Great things He hath done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to every believer, the promise of God. The vilest offender who truly believes, that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. CHORUS

Great things He hath taught us; great things He hath done, and great our rejoicing thro’ Jesus the Son. But purer and higher and greater will be our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. CHORUS

Congregational Praise

Before the Throne of God

Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. Psalm 63:3

Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea:
A great High Priest, whose name is Love, whoever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on His hands, My name is written on His heart;
I know that while in heav’n He stands no tongue can bid me thence depart
no tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within,
upward I look, and see Him there who made an end to all my sin.
Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free,
for God the Just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me,
to look on Him and pardon me

Behold Him there, the risen Lamb my perfect, spotless righteousness,
the great unchangeable “I Am, The King of glory and of grace.
One with Himself I cannot die my soul is purchased with His blood
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God,
with Christ my Savior and my God.

setting Your people free.

Sending Song:The Family of God-#419-Chorus only

We are God’s children; heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. Romans 8: 16-17

I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God. I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood! Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod;

for I’m part of the family, the family of God

SERMON NOTES

Monday, August 12 at 9:00 am

Get ready for Who Is My Neighbor? Vacation Bible School, where children will learn about neighbors near and far! Fun activities will help Bible stores come to life and lead children deeply into Scripture focused on God’s care and compassion for neighbors close at hand and around the world. Mission: The children will give their offerings toward support of a Christian Day Camp in Lebanon which presents the good news of Jesus and ministers to Syrian refugee children. Goal: $800.00 which will provide a week of program and lunch for 200+ children. Children ages 4 through grades 5 are welcome to this time of worship, games, crafts, snacks, friends, and fun! Who Is My Neighbor? will take place at HSF on August 12-15, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.

The Journey

HSF is offering the first small group discipleship program this fall called “The Journey”. The focus of this 8 month study is to look at three questions:

Who is God?

Who am I?

What does God desire to do through me?

We will initially offer a Wednesday night group which will meet from 5:30 – 7:30. If there is enough interest, we will also offer a Saturday morning group from      7:00 – 9:00. The group(s) will be facilitated by Laura Hoffman. Laura will guide the group through a set of reflections, relationships, and experiences. The Journey is a commitment of time and money. The rewards can be significant in your spiritual journey.

There is a financial investment. The materials are $250 per person

A payment plan can be established. Please talk with Laura if you areinterested in knowing more about this opportunity for growing deeper in your relationship with the Lord. Please do not let the cost be a hindrance.

There will be a kick-off retreat for The Journey on Saturday, September 7 from 9:00 – 2:00. Each group is limited to no more than 12 participants. This is a valuable investment in your own spiritual growth.

Please consider joining a group.

Thank you to all my brothers and sisters in Christ for your

prayers, beautiful cards, encouraging calls, yummy meals and excellent

fruit basket following my recent knee surgery.

I’m very thankful for all of you and am truly blessed.  Carol Wyers
